Operation Daybreak: Man Charged
Posted on: February 27, 2015
Operation Daybreak, the investigation into historical child abuse in Nottinghamshire Children’s Care Homes, have arrested a man in connection with several sexual offences, including rape.
Ivan Bethell, aged 61, of Barnhill Road, Wembley, has been arrested following investigations by Operation Daybreak officers.
Bethell has been charged with two counts of rape of a female aged under 16, two counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, one count of gross indecency with a girl under 14, two counts of inciting an act of gross indecency with a girl under 14, and three counts of inciting a girl under 14 to commit an act of gross indecency. According to Nottinghamshire Police, all charges relate to one victim.
This follows recent reports that a 65 year old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of indecent assault and aiding and abetting a rape offence within Nottinghamshire Children’s Home, Bracken House, in Bullwell, between 1972 and 1973.
To date, there have been a total of eleven arrests made under Operation Daybreak, with at least four suspects remaining on police bail. Recent investigations have lead to 23 potential suspects being questioned. The Criminal Investigation is now one of the largest in the history of the Nottinghamshire Police Force, with potentially more than 150 abusers.
If anyone has any information that may assist the Police with their investigation they should contact Operation Daybreak at Nottinghamshire Police.
